Weston – Rebels take Weston.
To Father
                                                                                             Weston
                                                                                             Sept. 2d/62.

Dear Father,

I having been away from home now nearly a month and have not heard one word as yet having wrote twice to Mother and Ace I thought I would write to you to find out what has become of you all. I suppose you have heard before about the Rebels taking this place.  It is our fault we were not here at the time when we came here from Ravenswood the next day some of the men went and got on a drunk and was going to shoot the Quarter master when he telegraphed to Genl Kelly who ordered us to the mountains for punishment.   If we had been there they would never have taken the town as the infantry would have fought which they did not, they did not fire a gun but run like thieves.  The boys jeer at them asking them how high is the Ohio, and how is the grain in Indiana.  There will be some of them shot if they say a word.

We are expecting an attack tonight a courier leaves in ten minutes for Clarksburg.  I will send this with him.

The Rebels took everything out of the P.O. the adjutant of Jenkens [Jenkins] Cavalry read a letter from you to Uncle or from ace to me as a man that saw him read it he laughed over it and asked who Rowand was if Ace wrote it ask him to write another and send it to me by fast mail.  The letter that you wrote to Uncle dates July 28th was handed to him today by a man who found it in the woods.  How did it get there.  I sent my ambrotype to Ace and Nancy Reed. Did they get them?  Tell Nancy I have written to her twice and have not heard from her yet.  How is the buffer?  We will be stationed at Weston.  No more the man is waiting.  Love to all.

                                                            Your Loving Son

                                                            Archie.
